With restrictions continuing to be lifted, we know that you will be looking for fun activities this winter to get you out of the house.

If you’re not prepared to travel too far – we got you. When the weather is less than desirable (to say the least), it’s nice to stick close to home.

To keep you entertained, we have put together a list of some of the activities you can do in your community this winter.

Toronto

The city is where something is always happening.

  1. Go skating at Nathan Phillips Square.

Even during pandemic restrictions, the ice-skating rink is open. So get some fresh air, listen to music and have a few laughs with your friends.

  1. Visit the St. Laurance Market

Did you know that this market was voted the world’s best food market by National Geographic? Located in Old Town Toronto, there are countless food stalls and restaurants to satisfy even the pickiest foodie.

  1. Check out Ripley’s Aquarium of Ontario

A great weekend destination for families, the aquarium covers 135,000 square feet and has tons of interactive exhibits to keep you engaged.

Stratford

If you’re living in Stratford, you have no shortage of winter activities.

  1. Walk or ski the T.J. Dolan Trail.

While great on foot, this trail is excellent for cross country skiing. For more adventure, check out the nearby Avon River Trail for stunning winter views and make your way to Lake Victoria.

  1. Ride a ‘magic carpet’ at River Valley Winter Tube Slide.

This tubing spot has eight lanes and its own snowmaking equipment (just in case we don’t get enough). Don’t miss wing night on Thursday nights!

  1. Take a self-guided chocolate tour.

Stratford has some of the best chocolatiers. Treat yourself to a delicacy at Black Swan Brewing Co., Rocky Mountain Chocolate, Rheo Thompson Candies, and more along the way!

Milton

Even when there is snow on the ground, and the air is bone-chillingly cold, there are still fun things to do in Milton.

  1. Stroll the Botanical Gardens

It may seem counterintuitive to visit a garden during the dead of winter, but the Botanical Gardens has a unique beauty when accented with snow.

  1. Visit the Terra Cotta Conservation Area.

Great for bird watching, snowshoeing, cross country skiing or just a nice walk, the Terra Cotta Conservation Area really comes alive in the winter. Equipment rental and lessons are available.

  1. Enjoy snow sports at Glen Eden.

This hillside is open for both skiing and snowboarding, and lift tickets are still affordable at just $42! For learners and children, snow school is available. It’s a great local spot to hone your skills!

  1. See the frozen falls at Hilton Falls.

This is your opportunity for the perfect Instagram shot! The falls are just as beautiful in the winter as in the summer. Giant icicles form off the cliff's edge, creating something that can only be described as magical.
