With children at home, it can be difficult to make sure they're entertained while still learning and being creative.

To help, we've found several authors, artists, and community groups that are helping kids express their creativity through online learning.

 

Lunchtime Doodles with Mo Willems

Mo Willems, author of the Elephant and Piggie children's book series, is the Artist-in-Residence at The Kennedy Center in Washington. Together, they have created a 15 episode video series that offers tips on drawing, fun games to play, and various crafts. They even have a graduation episode at the end!

 

Miximal Mondays with Ben Clanton

Every Monday at 12:30pm ET, Ben Clanton, author of the Narwhal and Jelly book series, posts Miximal Mondays on Instagram Live. During these live recordings, Ben takes suggestions from fans on what crazy creature they will draw. All episodes are posted afterwards on the Narwhal and Jelly Facebook page for those without Instagram.

 

Art for Kids Hub

This YouTube channel features a father drawing side by side with his kids. They go through step by step on how to draw things that kids are interested in. You'll find Minecraft characters, Shopkins characters, and characters from popular movies. Check out the Art for Kids Hub videos on YouTube. 

 

Draw Everyday with JJK

This is perfect for older children or budding artists. There are over 30 episodes so far that help kids learn to draw. Kids will learn techniques for drawing expressions, sound effects, comics, and how to use colours to express mood. All episodes of Draw Everyday with JJK are available on YouTube.

 

Draw with Grace Lin

Children's author Grace Lin hosts drawing lessons on her YouTube channel. She also reads some of her books and helps kids draw the characters from them. Grace also has a podcast called Kids Ask Authors where she lets kids ask her and a guest author questions. 

 

Dav Pilkey at Home

Dav Pilkey, best known for his Captain Underpants and Dogman book series, is working with Scholastic to create a series of videos and activities to keep kids creating. Dav Pilkey At Home highlights one of his books per week with drawing activities, comic creating, and fun games related to the book.
