The Lifeguard is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and general safety of the pool. We are currently filling summer positions. Hours vary from 10:00am – 8:00pm daily and all statutory holidays.

What you will do:

Responsibilities
•    Promote safe swimming habits and attitudes; enforce rules
•    Perform rescues and first-aid throughout the facility as needed
•    Initiate Emergency Response procedures
•    Ensure that all lifesaving equipment is functional and easily accessible
•    Report known and potential hazards to the Supervisor for immediate action
•    Conduct admission standard swim testing
•    Receive and respond to feedback from the public and staff
•    Participate in community events
•    Assist with public interaction and education regarding rules, hours and programs
•    Perform daily and weekly checklists
•    Record pool test results and bather load numbers
•    Complete instructional administrative tasks as required
•    Complete customer service calls
•    Assist in the maintenance and cleanliness of the pool, public change rooms, staff change rooms, first aid station and Lifeguard office
•    Maintain a professional appearance and attitude at all times
•    Wear the designated uniform while on duty
•    Attend meetings, in-service training sessions and clinics as required
•    Perform other duties as assigned by a Supervisor or Property Manager

Who we’re looking for:

•    Valid National Lifeguard certificate (obtained within the last two years)
•    Standard First Aid & CPR-C
•    Red Cross – Water Safety Instructors
•    Lifesaving Instructors (asset)
•    1-2 years’ experience as a Lifeguard and Swimming Instructor would be preferred
•    Sensitivity to and awareness of diversity issues
•    Good interpersonal and communication skills
•    Demonstrated leadership skills
•    Demonstrated conflict resolution skills
•    Strong organizational skills
•    Strong problem-solving skills
•    Ability to take initiative and work both independently and within a team environment
