Did you know there are some simple ways you can reduce your carbon footprint while living in an apartment?

While one of the most impactful ways to reduce your carbon footprint is to eliminate your need for a vehicle, here's a few other ways you can make an impact without ditching your car!

Living closer to the amenities you need is a great first step to reducing your carbon footprint. Opting to ride the bus, take the subway, or even walk to the places you need to go will make a big difference, even if you only manage it once a week. We have apartment buildings located throughout 12 Ontario cities, most of which are within walking distance to popular amenities and transit stops.

Shopping locally will reduce your carbon footprint by eliminating the need for items to be shipped overseas or across the country. With less travel time, carbon emissions can be greatly reduced. Buying locally not only helps the environment, it supports your community as well. Consider buying from your local farmers market, where you can get fresher food with less of an environmental impact.

Eat less meat. It takes a lot of land and water resources to raise animals for human consumption. But don't worry, you don't need to give up meat entirely to make a difference! Going meatless for one meal a week or one day a week will reduce your carbon footprint significantly.

On Earth Day, consider making a change to your lifestyle and adopt one of these great habits:

  • Donate old clothing and household items to charity instead of throwing them away.
  • Use a stainless-steel drinking bottle instead of bottled water.
  • Reuse your plastic shopping bags and food containers.
  • Report water leaks in your apartment promptly to avoid water waste.
  • Use power strips to control your electricity draw.
  • Always wash a full load of laundry.
