Best Natural Feature: The Credit River

This major river flows between the West/East sides of the city and feeds into Lake Ontario at the Port Credit Harbour. At 1500km long, the river is a protected area by the Credit Valley Conservation, and is home to more than 64 fish species and dozens of species of other animals who call the watershed home. Nature enthusiasts can enjoy travelling on this river by canoe or kayak.

There are many bus routes within the city via the local bus transit and the Toronto transit.

GO Transit 

There are several GO stations and three main train lines that run through Mississauga: Lakeshore West, Ktichener and Milton. 

Main Highways

Highway 401, 403, 407 and the QEW offer quick connection to the GTA and Niagara/Hamilton regions.

Air

The Lester B. Pearson Airport (YYZ) is an international gateway and the largest airport in Canada. In the Northeast part of the city, this is the main airport for Toronto, the GTA, Hamilton and Niagara regions.

Square One Shopping Centre

With over 320 stores, restaurants and services, Square One is a destination mall for the surrounding community. The mall was recently renovated and added a high-end expansion that includes Holt Renfrew and several top designer stores. 

Erin Mills Town Square

Erin Mills is the second largest mall in Mississauga and has also been recently renovated and features a great offering of mainstay stores and a multitude of services.

Heartland Town Centre

This shopping plaza follows the outdoor concept with a mix of standard stores, outlets, home decor, grocery and services. It's Mississauga's one-stop-shop!

Dixie Outlet Mall

Dixie Outlet Mall is a well-known stop just off the QEW in Mississauga. This indoor mall features over 125 outlet stores, fast food restaurants and the Fantastic Flea Market in the basement. If you're looking for a bargain, this is the place for you!

Celebration Square, in downtown Mississauga, is host to many festivals, events, and community activities year-round. Residents enjoy ice skating in winter, movie nights and concerts in the summer, and the Lions Farmers Market from Spring to Fall.

The Playdium in Mississauga is a 40,000 square foot indoor entertainment centre. Known as the best place to play, the Playdium features over 200 high-tech rides, an 11-acre outdoor entertainment park, and a baseball dome.

Who the sister city of Mississauga is?

Mississauga has a Japanese Park named Kariya Park. In the spring, this park is filled with the beautiful blooms of the cherry blossom trees. Kariya is a city in Japan which happens to have a park named Mississauga! These cities exchange cultural gifts with their 'sister-city' relationship.

What the city's connection to KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) is?

In 1965, Colonel Sanders of KFC actually lived in Mississauga! While he lived in the city he oversaw the Canadian KFC franchise. He lived in the Lakeview area and was often spotted at the KFC on Tomken Road!

Why over 200,000 residents were evacuated in 1979?

One of the largest evacuations in Canadian history happened in 1979 when a freight train carrying 106 cars derailed near Mavis Rd & Dundas St in Mississauga. Due to the chemicals & explosives being carried in those cars, some ruptured and many damaged, residents were evacuated. Thanks to the efficient efforts of the evacuation and containment efforts of the city, no one was seriously injured.
